Robert Michael O’Connell, II, Germantown, decided to race us all home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at age 62. He was born January 8, 1949 to Robert and Patricia O’Connell in Jackson MI. He is survived by his loving wife, of 25 years, Sandra O’Connell; two sons, Robert M (Sam) O’Connell III and Charles Neely Hurt; grandson, Liam Michael O’Connell; sisters, Barbara Mary O’Connell and Martha Golden; brothers, Jeffery M. (Barbara) O’Connell and Shawn M. (Mary) O’Connell; mother-in-law, Artilene Tutor, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Father, Robert Michael O’Connell; and Mother, Patricia Mullin O’Connell. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree, and spent the last 5 years working with Applied Underwriters in Memphis. Bob was an extremely proud father and grandfather. He had a passion for his family, and never missed an opportunity to help a friend or family member in need. He was an avid skydiver, and regularly jumped out of planes with members of the army’s own Golden Knights parachute team. His scuba diving adventures took him along all of the beaches of the gulf coast, the waters of Mexico, and all throughout the Caribbean. His love for biking propelled him to participate in regular road races throughout the south, and even Sr. Olympic qualifying events. We love you grandpa Bob; you will be sadly missed by everyone. The family will receive friends Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue, with a memorial service to follow at 10 a.m. According to Bob’s wishes, cremation will follow the services and he will return to the waters of the Caribbean
