

Vernon Eugene "Gene" Fleet, 87, of Memphis, died February 7, 2012 in Ft. Smith, AR. He was a retired engraver for the Memphis Publishing Co and a WW II U.S. Marine Corps veteran. A member of First Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Chancel Choir, he served as interim minister of music in numerous Baptist churches in Memphis for many years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Doris L. Fleet; daughters, Beverly Warren (Johnnny) of Abilene, TX, Becky Hartsfield (Charlie) of Ft. Smith, AR, and Kathy Arroyo (David) of Luttrell, TN; sister, Carol Hooten of Bartlett, TN and brothers, Hubert Fleet, Jr. of Memphis and Robert Fleet of Olive Branch, MS; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue with visitation beginning at 9:30. Burial will be in Memphis Memory Gardens.
