Ginny was a Christmas baby born December 25, 1939 to Arnold and Elsie Hartz in Dearborn, Michigan. While growing up Ginny attended Denby High School and enjoyed playing field hockey and participating in church activities. Ginny graduated from Wittenburg University where she met her first love, Pastor Jim Wessenauer.
Ginny and Jim married on August 18, 1962. During the years they lived in Huntsville, AL, Austell, GA, and settled in Memphis, TN. They had two children, daughter Dawn and son David, as well as their beloved dog, Alphie. After Jim passed in 1987 Ginny met her second love, Bob Prince, and they married on August 7, 1999.
Ginny had a 40 year career with H and R Block as an Enrolled Agent and Tax Advisor where she specialized in corporate and business taxes. Ginny “officially” retired from H and R Block but continued to do many personal friends and family’s taxes.
Ginny was a strong Christian with an unwavering faith. Ginny lived her life as our Lord would have wanted and was known for being generous, loving, fair, and always willing to give of her time. Ginny was very active in her church as a Catechism and Sunday School instructor, organist and singer as well as making many of the banners and Christmas ornaments that adorned the church and Christmas trees for many years. She loved her group of “Rhinos” and being involved in the Singing Saints. Ginny also gave many years to working with the Boy Scouts, working as the financial secretary at Messiah Lutheran Church, donating many gallons of blood to Life Blood, working with MIFA Meals on Wheels, and many other charitable organizations. In 2019 Ginny was recognized by the Lutheran District for her generosity and charitable works. She loved to travel, collect stamps, do crossword puzzles, play solitaire on her computer, watch sports on TV, genealogy, butterflies, and the color blue.
Ginny’s greatest pride was her two granddaughters, Jordan and Cameron Booth. She loved nothing more than spending time with her “gal pal” Jordan and her “Red Head” Cameron.
Ginny is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Elsie Hartz, and her two husbands, Jim Wessenauer and Bob Prince. She is survived by her daughter, Dawn (Alex) Rodriguez; son, David Wessenauer; sister, Marilyn Freeman; and two granddaughters, Jordan and Cameron Booth, as well as many close friends.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, April 29 at 2:00 PM at Messiah Lutheran Church (3743 Austin Peay Highway, Memphis, TN 38128) with visitation preceding at 1:00 PM. Ginny will be reunited with her husband, Jim, in a private burial in Chattanooga, TN on Monday, May 2 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Over the last few years Ginny’s body weakened but her mind and faith never did. Ginny was deeply loved but we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace and reunited with her loved ones in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at MemphisFuneralPoplar.com for the Prince family.
