W.R. Marr, a good natured man, was my friend.  He was an asset to the personnel he worked with and the department he was associated with for 30 years.  He appeared to think of others as quickly as himself.  Thanks for your service and for the pride you took in your job.  I thank our Lord that you passed my way. Welborn and I worked together in the old B of I during the middle 70's.  He was soft spoken and kind.  He once told me not to forget the magic of compounded interest.  I should have paid more attention to him.  R.I.P. friend.

I had the occasion to work with Mr. Marr when he was assigned to the Bureau of Identification, at the Memphis Police Department. He was dedicated and took his job very seriously. A consummate professional. 
He would get a "hit" on a set of fingerprints and then have not one, but two other technicians confirm his findings. He did so, as he put it, "to make darn sure we had the right guy or, were able to turn the right guy loose." He was never afraid to ask for a second opinion.
Mr. Marr also had a great and laid back sense of humor. Never with an off color joke, but humerous anecdotes that really were entertaining.
Always with a smile and a friendly hello to every officer he helped, you couldn't ask for a better listener and professional to turn to for advice.
Some men stick in your mind for all the wrong reasons. Mr. Marr sticks in my mind because he knew and did his job very well without seeking any fanfare or glory. He never had a disrespectful remark about anyone. I firmly believe he lived and breathed the golden rule.
He had an infectious laugh and chuckle. 
I still hear it.
He made a very great impression on me and lot of others.
I feel fortunate to have known him.
