

Rev. William Fredrick Heinz, Sr., 96, entered the presence of the Lord on August 13, 2010. A native of Memphis, Rev. Heinz retired from Sealtest Dairy at age 62. He became an ordained minister at age 65 and began a Senior Adult ministry at Central Church, where he also served as an elder for over 40 years. His ministry included holding worship services and Bible studies at numerous nursing homes throughout the Memphis area. He also served on the board of Child Evangelism Fellowship as well as Kirby Pines Retirement Community, which he was instrumental in founding. He was also at one time President of the Board of Calvary Rescue Mission. At the time of his death, he was a member and associate pastor of Redeemer Evangelical Church. He continually served the Lord until he was called home. Rev. Heinz was preceded in death by a daughter, Gladys Mae. Survivors include his wife of 77 years, Gladys Heinz; eight children, Mildred Fingar of Charleston, SC, Fred Heinz, Jr. of Memphis, Charles Heinz of Memphis, Jean Smith of Chesterfield, MO, Jim Heinz of Cordova, Ray Heinz of Collierville, David Heinz of Memphis and Mary Lockley of Arlington, TN; 33 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Curd Adams of Bartlett. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 15, 2010 from 4-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue, with funeral services Monday, August 16 at 10 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Germantown Parkway. Elders of Redeemer Evangelical Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Calvary Rescue Mission or Redeemer Evangelical Church Building Fund.
