Evelyn was born on April 20, 1932 in Long Beach, California to William Howard and Vera Mae Sippel. She graduated from High School in 1949 from Long Beach Poly High School. She was involved with her siblings and friends in music during those years and spent her summers at Arrowbear Music Camp. She was very proud that she had marched in 3 different Rose Bowl Parades. During her childhood and into young adulthood, she developed life-long friendships that morphed into “the Couple’s Club” as childhood friends married and continued to gather monthly.
After high school, she went to Long Beach City College and earned her degree to become a Dental Assistant, which was her profession for 20 years until she was able follow her true passion to run her own business as an Antique Dealer. She married Peter Lee Baeyens (also from Long Beach, California.) in 1953. They resided in Long Beach during the course of their 31-year marriage. After being widowed at the age of 51 in 1984, she packed up and moved across country on a 25-year adventure to Callicoon, New York. Evelyn continued to build her antique business and research her family’s genealogy. She also took up golf, volunteered at the Callicoon Youth Center, and sought out other interests.
In 2008, she returned to California to be close to her family where she especially enjoyed cheering on her great grandchildren at their various sporting and dancing events. She continued her passion of “paying it forward” by volunteering at the local Thrift Store, and she looked forward to meeting with other Garden Club members in Sun City, California.
