Jay faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force, working as a communications equipment repair technician at his duty stations in the Philippines and in California. His time in the service laid the foundation that shaped his lifelong commitment to service, discipline, and compassion for others. After leaving the Air Force, Jay spent many years working as a computer technician, service manager, and technical recruiter.
He later answered a call to ministry and served wholeheartedly as Associate Pastor of Benevolence, where he led Helping Hands and helped tirelessly in the church food pantry. Jay was known for quietly meeting practical needs, offering hope, and extending kindness to anyone who came through the doors. His
ministry went far beyond programs—he spent countless hours visiting the sick in hospitals, praying with families, and offering comfort during some of life’s
hardest moments.
Jay was also an instructor at the Calvary Chapel Bible College in Gilbert, Arizona. His students consistently shared how much they valued his teaching, describing him as thoughtful, grounded in Scripture, and passionate about helping others grow in their faith. From the moment he arrived at church, Jay was fully engaged—ready to serve, teach, encourage, and support wherever he was needed.
Above all, Jay cherished his family. He loved spending time with his wife, Janet, especially during their time in Arizona where they enjoyed hiking, exploring nature, and photographing wildflowers—simple moments that brought him great joy. He loved cars and baking bread on the weekends.
Jay and Janet moved to Menifee to be closer to family after his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. Jay will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, a caring brother and son, a servant hearted
pastor, and a man who lived his faith through action.
He is survived by his wife, Janet French; his brother, Chris ; his son, Leigh and his wife Jodie and son, Nathan, and his wife Amy ; his grandchildren Hannah and her husband Brandon, Joel, Jack, and Evelyn; and his great-grandchildren Colton and Julliette.
Jay’s life was marked by service, compassion, and quiet faithfulness—and his legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Victory Calvary Chapel, located at 28125 Bradley Road, #130, Menifee, CA 92586. The service is scheduled for February 28, 2026, starting at 11:00 am.
