Myriam Garcia

Myriam Garcia, age 87, of Menifee, CA was called home to be with the Lord on August 25, 2022. Myriam was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, to the late Angela Serrano Colon and Isidoro Colon. Her parents were blessed with fifteen children and Myriam was the eighth child.

As young adults, Myriam and her older brother, Angel Luis, moved to Chicago in hopes of finding work. In Chicago, Myriam met Gregorio Luna Garcia (Gregory). A friendship blossomed into love and Gregory and Myriam were married on July 6, 1955. God blessed them with sixty-four years of marriage. From this union, two children were born, Gregory Garcia (Josie) and Myriam Yvette Garcia Vigil (Ted). They were blessed with five grandchildren, Monica Miller, Kelci Walker, Steven Garcia, Ashley Vigil, and Holly Vigil.

Myriam worked at the Simmons Mattress Factory with Gregory and was also employed by the Lake County Department of Welfare. She worked as the supervisor for the Food Stamp Office in East Chicago, Indiana for years.

Myriam held her Catholic faith close to her heart and became very involved in the church. Gregory and Myriam became Eucharistic Ministers and Myriam would become part of the Legion of Mary and other groups from the church. She continued this passion for her faith when her and Gregory moved to California in May 2001. She would often speak about St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church and about her dear friends from church. She loved the church and held close relationships with many parishioners for many years.

Myriam also joined the Red Hats Society in California and made many wonderful friends as a result. She loved spending time with her family, crocheting afghans for friends, and praying her rosary. She prayed the rosary every day faithfully. Myriam was able to pray the rosary until her final days and this was something very important to her.

The love that Myriam shared with Gregory could not be measured. It was a strong bond held deeply in their hearts and blessed by God. Their love was powerful and evident to their friends and family. The final blessing that has been bestowed by God, is that He has reunited her with the love of her life, Gregory.

A Memorial Service for Gregory (passed away May 19, 2020) and Myriam will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022, at 10:00 am at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 27931 Murrieta Road, Sun City (Menifee), CA 92586, phone number 951-679-4531.
