

Alice D. Whitehurst Beloved daughter, mother and grandmother was born to Edward and Naomi Whitehurst on March 26, 1945. She was their only child. Alice passed on to her next chapter on 3/21/2024. Her parents preceded her in death. She attended public school in East Orange, New Jersey and graduated East Orange High School in 1963.
Alice’s family went on to welcome her first child, Sean-Anthony Christopher Whitehurst in May of 1968. 13 years later the family grew again with the birth of her daughter, Aftenthyn L. Person (Jefferson).
Alice was widely known for a girl’s social club that she and two of her closest friends started in High School known as the J. A. C.’s, standing for Janet, Alice and Carol. They had many events and many members.
She was also known for her father’s business, Whitehurst Cabs. Whitehurst Cabs was the first black owned taxi company in the city of East Orange.
Alice was very active in her community from volunteering at Washington School to working at East Orange public Library in the children section, to working for local offices of the City of East Orange, such as her time working for the East Orange Department of Senior Citizens.
She was extremely active at St. Paul’s AME Church located on Sanford St. She could often be found volunteering there or attending bible study.
Alice went on to work technical support for Comcast and Xfinity elevating to a level 4 technical support representative from which she retired. When not volunteering or working she could be found enjoying James Bond movies, rescuing animals, and enjoying time with her grandchildren.
She loved crafting, learning, and exploring the world on her own terms. That sense of wonder lead to her leaving her home town of East Orange, NJ to join her daughter in Merced, California.
Alice is survived by her two children, Sean-Anthony C. Whitehurst of Kileen, Tx, and her daughter Aftenthyn L. Person of Merced, CA, her grandchildren Seananthony C. Whitehurst Jr. of New York, Jalese A. Whitehurst of East Orange, Kimay, Keshawn, and Kiya Whitehurst of Texas and Noah-Miguel M. Person of Merced.
Alice was an avid learner during her retirement she studied animal grooming earning her diploma and was studying to become a Veterinary Technician training at the time of her passing.

While distraught with grief over her departure, her family knows her spirit lives on through them and their love for each other and acts of service to their fellow human and Community.
