

Benjamin Glade Walton was born on April 7, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah. At age six he moved to San Francisco and later to Los Angeles where he graduated from high school. Ben joined the Army Air Corp and served in WWII from 1942 through 1945. He attended UC Berkeley and graduated from USC. Ben moved to Merced in 1951 and began working for Farmers Insurance Group. He worked there for 37 years until he retired in 1988 as regional accounting manager. Ben devoted his life to his family and to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served three missions in Paris, France, Zaire, Africa, and Salt Lake City, UT. Ben served for many years in the Boy Scouts of America. He received the rank of Eagle Scout and was proud his two sons and six grandsons also became Eagle scouts. Ben loved to travel and lived and/or traveled to Europe, Central & South America, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Middle East. Ben lived in Merced from 1951 to 2021 with short work transfers to Los Angeles and Kansas City. Ben died on March 31, 2022 one week from his 99th birthday. He is survived by his children: David (Sandra) Walton of Walnut Creek, CA, Cheryl (Val) Fogelberg of Merced, CA, Steven (Darlene) Walton of Boulder City, NV; his sister, Pat Neser of Irvine, CA; his 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Verna Wilson Walton and Elaine Paige Walton. A Funeral Service will be held for Benjamin on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel located at 1080 E. Yosemite Ave. in Merced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Benjamin's honor.
