

Charles (Chuck) T Winter, age 92, of Merced, California passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022. Chuck was born in New York City and was a retired US Air Force fighter pilot of 24 years. He retired a full Colonel at Castle Air Force base in Atwater, California.
After the Air Force, Chuck started and operated the very popular Hobby Castle (aka Fantasy Castle) in Merced for over 15 years. He was also an active member in MOWA (Retired Military Association) and loved his time with the Merced Elks Club. Chuck was best known for his 45-year active participation in the Merced Radio Control Club – his contributions were memorialized by the naming of Chuck Winter Field – the current flying field for the Merced RC Club. He also enjoyed the constant and loving companionship of his service dog Pierre – Chuck could be seen around town in stores, church, and even restaurants with Pierre at his side. He was a resident of Merced for 48 years.
Chuck is preceded in death by his wife, Jeri Winter of 64 years; and his parents Charlie & Helen Winter.
He is survived by his son Jett Winter and Jett’s wife Karen Winter; by his daughters Bonnie Winter and Melanie Winter; and his grandsons Jarrett Winter and Ben Winter.
