On May 8, 1937, Cora Lee Winzer was born in Mississippi to Oliver Barnes and Ollie Sims. She was called to be with the Lord on August 13, 2011 in Merced, California at the age of 74.
She was the third child of five children. Her family moved to Oakland, California when she was a child. She attended Elmhurst Jr. High School in Oakland. Cora was united in marriage to Roger Winzer in 1956. She was the mother of two sons and two daughters. Cora’s favorite past time included cooking, baking cakes and her famous chocolate chip walnut cookies. She enjoyed shopping and getting her nails done and sporting the finest jewelry. She also loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was kind hearted and generous to all.
Cora is preceded in death by her mother Ollie Sims, father Oliver Barnes, sister Essetta Barnes, great grandson Gerryan Xavier Jones-Roberts and her longtime companion Johnny Macree.
She’s survived by her two brothers and Curvie Barnes (Joyce Barnes), of San Pablo, CA; Bobby Johnson (Viola Johnson) of Vacaville, CA; her sister Pearl Barnes of Mississippi. Her four children Roger Lee Winzer (Pamela Winzer) of Sacramento, CA; Darlene Slaughter (Stanley Slaughter Sr.), Larry D. Winzer (Vienna Paye), Sheila Winzer (James Wilson) and Rachel Winzer of Sacramento all of Merced. She’s also survived by her 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
