December 29th, 1937- January 29th, 2021
Loving, known as Dee, was born in Merced, California, and passed away peacefully at Grace Home in Livingston, Ca, on Friday, January 29th, 2021, at the age of 83.
She is preceded in death by her son Perry Escamilla, her Mother Caroline Luna, and her sister Rachel Luna Rodriguez.
Dee raised two children who she loved fiercely. Perry Escamilla and Desiree Healy-Arista.
Dee spent most of her life in Merced but also lived in Kansas and Illinois. Early in life, Dee provided child care and housekeeping. Her first real job was at Four Star Market on G street in Merced. Having a loving and compassionate heart, she followed a career in health care. She loved to tell exciting stories of the five years she worked at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois. Then, in 1975 Dee drove her yellow AMC Hornet from Chicago to Merced, California, where she settled.
Dee worked for Childs Avenue Clinic (GVHC) for 16 years, where she made many lifelong friends of providers, co-workers, and patients. Being bilingual, she participated in migrant immunizations and well-baby checks, which she enjoyed. She always loved the elderly because they reminded her of her grandmother, whom she loved dearly. During her last working years, she was employed part-time at Mercy/Sutter and local convalescent facilities.
For almost 20 years, Dee lived at Sierra Meadows, where she was a good neighbor and friend. Taking seniors shopping, to appointments, and passing out donated food.
Known as Nana to her two granddaughters Ariel ( Arista-Kranda) and Phoebe (Arista). They were her ultimate JOY, and she was so proud of not only their accomplishments but their character, always being respectful and kind. Nana attended every dance performance, Band concert, game, and award ceremony for “Her Girls.” Nana never missed a Ballet Folklorico performance, and you could always see and hear her in the front cheering on her girls and the group.
She will be missed by her sisters: Rosemarie Luna, Carol Luna, her only brother Salvador “Sunny” Luna, and sister-in-law Genevieve.
Dee’s legacy will be continued by her loving daughter Desiree, son-in-law Anthony Arista, granddaughters Ariel Arista-Kranda ( Jordan), and Phoebe Arista.
We will continue to be good neighbors, kind to less fortunate, and love God…. just as your grandmother taught you.
Until we are together again….as you always say…. Hasta la Vista baby, The Party’s Over, Love you.
Service will be virtual Saturday, April 24th, online with the Merced Salvation Army; for more information, contact her daughter at [email protected].
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Merced Salvation Army.
