7/23/1920-8/20/2012
Monday, August 20th, Elisabeth (Liz) Helen Williams joined her husband of 66 years, Robert L. Williams. Elisabeth had just enjoyed her 92nd birthday two weeks earlier with a gathering of friends and family. She missed her husband deeply and yearned to be with him in the afterlife and the glory of God and Heaven.
Elisabeth leaves behind two sons, Michael and Timothy and three grandchildren: Patrick Williams of San Diego, Jennifer Barbosa of Phoenix and Kristina Tau of Merced. She also enjoyed the affection of four great grandchildren.
Elisabeth was a "Class of 38" graduate of the Institute of Notre Dame (I.N.D.) of Baltimore, Maryland.
Elisabeth met her husband, a farm boy from Superior, Wisconsin during a WWII troop appreciation Carnival in Baltimore, MD, her hometown. After an exciting two year romance, that included her traveling west to Oklahoma to pin on his Lieutenant Bars and Wings, he flew into Baltimore piloting a B-24 the night prior to the wedding. They were wed in April of 1944. He then returned 48 hours later to his assignment base in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he was an instructor pilot. Elisabeth then joined him a month later.
She often commented on how much she enjoyed the 26 years of Air Force life and the joys of making many lifelong friends everywhere they were stationed or resided. She and Bob chose Merced, California in which to retire and enjoy the rest of their lives. In retirement, she and Bob motor-homed all over the country including Alaska and also Mexico. She felt that they had a great life. She participated in the Officer's Wives Club, the Emblem Club, and other social service organizations. She and Bob were members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Services are pending.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
