In 1926, her family moved from Bishop, California to Merced. A couple of years later they moved to the Planada, Le Grand area. Three years after graduating from Le Grand High School, Enid moved to Sacramento, California and there she attended Sacramento Junior College. After graduation she then went on to attend California State University, Berkley. In Berkley she graduated with a teaching degree but for lack of teaching employment she was hired to work as a case worker for the Merced County Welfare Department. Three years as a case worker and Enid realized that she no longer had an interest to be a teacher but wanted to be a social worker. She then attended the School of Social Service at the University of Chicago. This then enabled her to be employed as a registered and licensed social worker for the Children’s Bureau of Los Angeles. In 1947 Enid married Jim Cartwright whom she met through mutual friends. After working for the Children’s Bureau for 25 years and for the Information and Referral Services for 10 years, Enid and Jim retired and came to Merced to enjoy their retirement. After a lengthy illness Jim died in 1984. Enid then met Clarence Olive and the two became acquainted and were married October 4, 1986. Clarence died in 2006.
