

Mrs. Ethel Mae Moffett a long time resident of Merced passed away peacefully on July 25th 2013 with loving family by her side. Mrs. Ethel was a native of Taylorsville, Mississippi and had also lived in Rolling fork, Mississippi. Mrs. Ethel attended Smith County Training school and Smith County High School, later graduating from Mississippi Valley State earning a B.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Mrs. Ethel was blessed to have accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Palestine Baptist Church in Summerland, Mississippi. Mrs. Ethel and her husband Robert always made sure Church was a part of their lives, Mrs. Ethel had to travel a lot with her husband Robert while he was in the Military service but she always found a church while her husband was stationed in Hawaii she joined The Pearl Harbor Baptist Church until she left Hawaii in 1980. Robert and Ethel then found themselves stationed at Castle Air Force Base Merced California at which time Ethel Became a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church, Mrs. Ethel or Sister Ethel as many church members refer to her became a very active member of the church and served on the St. Matthew Baptist Usher Board, later would be named Worship Care Providers holding the Secretary and treasurer leadership office, Mrs. Ethel also was later named Deaconess of the St. Matthew Baptist Church where she was affiliated with the preparation of the Communion Services, she also was a teacher for the primary Sunday School learners due to Mrs. Ethel’s teachings many of her learners became ministers and spiritual leaders. Mrs. Ethel was a proud volunteer for the Merced American Red Cross.
Mrs. Ethel is survived by her loving husband Robert Moffett Jr. of 45 years of marriage Robert resides in Merced Ca. She is also survived by her surrogate daughter Greta Hollins also of Merced Ca. Brothers Ralph C. Thigpen (Theresa) Lee Curtis Thigpen (Annyesteen) Beray Thigpen (Dora). Sisters Annie Mae Abram (Roosevelt) Deceased; Dessie Mae Expose (Paul); Flora Jane Harris. Grandparents Deceased; Sylvester and Savanah Thigpen. Surrogate Grandchildren; Deja Moms and Andrecya Hollins, preceded in death by her parents Ceroy and MaeAlma Thigpen and Annie Mae Abram. Services will include a Visitation on August 2nd 2013 at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral home Chapel 1490 B Street Merced CA 95341 from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on August 3rd 11:00 a.m. at the St. Matthew Baptist Church 1057 N Street Merced CA 95341. Interment will take place on August 5th 2013 12:30 p.m. at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery 32053 West McCabe Road Gustine Ca.
Although our hearts are greatly sadden with the loss of our beloved Ethel Mae, we are comforted in knowing that we have a strong circle of loving church family, and family friends in our presence, The loving expressions of words, comfort, prayers, cards, flowers, phone calls, late night spirituals, consular many phone calls were made by, Pastor Jerry C.
