It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gilbert Martinez Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on March 21, 2026, at the age of 65. Born in the city of San Jose, California on July 22, 1960, Gilbert was a man whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and the power of a warm smile.
Gilbert was the cherished son of Luis Manuel Martinez and Juana Martinez. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Henrietta Martinez, his beloved son, Gilbert Martinez Jr., and his father, Luis Manuel Martinez. Despite these profound losses, Gilbert remained a pillar of strength and compassion, embodying a spirit of endurance and grace that inspired all who knew him.
For nearly half a century, Gilbert dedicated himself to a career in shipping and receiving at a local manufacturing company. His work ethic and commitment were matched only by his generosity and kindness. It was not just his professional accomplishments that defined him, but the warmth and sincerity he brought into every interaction, whether with colleagues or family.
Gilbert's greatest joy in life was his family. He leaves behind a loving legacy through his children: Benjamin Martinez, Johanna Martinez Alvarado, Angelique Martinez, Lauren Martinez, Michael Rodriguez, David Martinez, and Randall Martinez. He was the proud grandfather of 25 grandchildren and found immense joy in watching them grow, often recounting their achievements with a twinkle in his eye. His love extended even further to his 10 great-grandchildren, who brought additional light into his life.
A man of varied interests, Gilbert found happiness in the simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, often spending mornings by the water, casting his line with patience and hope. His love for motorcycles was a thrilling adventure he cherished, feeling the freedom of the open road. Gilbert's passion for music and dance was infectious, and he was often the first to start dancing at family gatherings, encouraging everyone to join in and celebrate life.
Gilbert's personal characteristics were as vibrant as his interests. Known for his warm smile and the comforting hugs he offered so freely, he had a unique ability to make anyone feel at home in his presence. His laughter was a balm, his advice was wise, and his love was unconditional. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Gilbert is survived by his devoted mother, Juana Martinez, and his siblings, who were his lifelong companions and confidants. Together, they shared countless memories, supporting one another through life's ebbs and flows.
In our hearts forever, Gilbert Martinez Sr. will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
