Glen Stewart Hogue

Glen Stewart Hogue, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the age of 86, at Mercy Hospital. He bravely fought cancer until his final moments. Glen was born on August 5, 1939, in Fresno, CA, to Edna and Jerrell Hogue. He was raised alongside his siblings, Doug and Royce Hogue. Glen married his beloved wife, Ginny (Virginia) Layng, on December 30, 1961, in Merced, CA. Together, they built a life filled with love with their three sons, Steven, John, and Paul. Glen attended Merced High School and Merced Community College. He served in the Army from 1957 to 1960. He later dedicated many years of his life working for Cal Trans and the Merced County Road Department, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his community. A resident of both Merced and Mariposa, CA, Glen cherished the outdoors and spent his free time fishing and hunting with his family in the Eastern Sierras, near Lee Vining and Glass Creek. He was known for “tinkering” in his shop and could fix almost anything. After retirement, he and Ginny traveled in their 5th-wheel throughout the United States. It gave him great joy to cook for his family. His famous tacos were always a favorite. He was an active member in his church, coached youth baseball, and was a long-time member of the Mariposa Chorus and the Merced College Chorale. He was also a proud member of the Masons, Merced Lodge 99. Glen is survived by his devoted wife, Ginny; his brother Doug (Linda) Hogue; his son, Paul (Andrea) Hogue, and his daughter-in-law (Lisa); his grandchildren, Kiersti (Kory) Mangels, Myles (Dan) Starling, and Rocky Hogue; and his great-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Ace Mangels. He was preceded in death by his sons, Steven and John (Lisa), and his brother Royce. He will be remembered for his loving, kind, and quiet spirit, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mariposa Lutheran Church, with a reception to follow. Glen will be laid to rest at the Merced District Cemetery in a graveside service for the family. Stratford-Evans is making funeral arrangements. The family suggests donations be made to the Mariposa Lutheran Church in Glen’s memory. He will be dearly missed.
