October 29, 1933 – May 26, 2025
Inie Meidlinger passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, at the age of 91. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
She is survived by her sister, Sheila Sandmeyer, and her four sons:
• Scott (Debbie) and their daughter, Emily
• Mark (Delene) and their sons, Erik (Brittany) and Jason, and great-grandchildren Knox, Ryker, and Mackenzie
• Tim (Cecilia) and their son, Jacob
• Brian (Vickie) and their children, Megan and Ryan
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ed Meidlinger; her grandson, Joseph; her brothers Cleon and Bud; and her sister Dodie.
Born Inez Mae Astrid Jacobson in the small township of Wegdahl, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Edwin Oliver and Ida Marie Jacobson. She grew up in Montevideo, Minnesota, where she helped support her family by babysitting and working at a local theater. It was during this time that she met Ed, whom she married in 1952 in San Antonio, Texas, as he began his career in the U.S. Air Force.
As a military wife, Inie embraced a life of frequent moves and new beginnings. No matter where she went, she had a natural gift for creating a warm and welcoming home, often finding joy and friendship through bowling leagues and hobbies like gardening, ceramics, and—most memorably—cooking and baking. She was also a long-time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Atwater, Minnesota, where her strong faith in the Lord remained a constant source of strength.
After Ed’s retirement from the Air Force, they embarked on an unexpected adventure—moving to Tehran, Iran, for a position with Boeing. Though the transition came with its challenges and initial culture shock, Inie approached it with her usual resilience and optimism. She made new friends, joined a local bowling team, and found fellowship at the Lutheran church in Tehran. This chapter of her life brought unforgettable experiences, including the chance to travel throughout Europe and even visit Israel—memories she cherished deeply.
Inie’s love for cooking and baking was one of her defining joys. She took pride in preparing homemade meals and treats for every holiday, ensuring each family member had something special made just for them. She was especially proud of winning blue ribbons at the Merced County Fair for her jams—a testament to both her talent and dedication. Her kitchen was a place of love, where traditions were passed down and everyone felt cared for.
Inie will be remembered for her boundless heart, deep faith, quiet strength, and the beautiful way she brought people together through love, food, and friendship. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Pacifica Senior Care, their dedicated nurses, and the team at Civa Hospice for their compassion and care in Mom’s final days. Your kindness and support meant the world to her and to all of us.
Burial services will be held at Strombeck Cemetery in Montevideo, Minnesota, at a later date.
