My wife, Chris and I moved from Merced more than seventeen years ago but I shall always remember the masonic brotherhood Jay and I shared. His ardent concern for others was something to behold.  When a grenade exploded during a military display at the Merced Mall many years ago, Jay was quick to obtain an airplane so we could fly to Placerville to quickly bring a young man's mother and sister back, to be by his side. Jay was one of the most caring people I have ever known. The Evans family must be justifiably proud of the trackings of goodness he left behind. In this time of sadness we pray that God will watch over each of you, preserve your memories, and bring you peace.

I could not ask for a better Father-In-Law. Jay was more like a father, and a friend. Jay was a Godly man who had a lot of wisdom and life experience that was always a help to me. I'm not sure how I can go from here without him. He will truly be missed by me, and all of the family. Jay introduced me to flying, and taught me many things that I will always remember. I hope I can be half the man Jay was.

My thoughts go out to Lera and children. When I was seven I thought Willis Appliance was my second home as I would tag along behind my grandmother each time she needed a question answered about one of her appliances or needed to purchase a new one. The store was facinating to me and Jay was so kind and patient explaining everything that was asked of him. He was a very special man and will be missed dearly.
