On March 13th, 2021, Jean (Pattison) Cruickshanks passed away at the age of 85, after a long battle with breast cancer. Jean was born December 9th, 1935 in Glasgow, Scotland, the youngest child of Thomas and Jeannie Pattison. In her 20s, Jean immigrated to the US with her former husband, John “Scottie” Cruickshanks, settling in Merced in 1965. Jean spent over 35 years at Mercy Hospital eventually becoming a registration supervisor. She was also an avid member of the American Business Women’s Association and was very involved in all of its annual events. Jean was loved to socialize and go out with friends and was noticed everywhere she went by her distinctive Scottish accent. A lifelong Christian, Jean was a devout member of Central Presbyterian Church in Merced.
Jean joins her parents, brother Thomas, and, most recently, her beloved sister Mary (Mae) in Heaven. She is survived by her four sons Alastair, Stuart, Ross, and Jon (Malissa), 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many cherished friends. Jean’s family would also like to thank the staff of Merced Nursing and Rehab for their dedication and care. In lieu of flowers, Jean’s family asks that you consider donating to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. A memorial will be announced at a later date.
