Jean Edith Martin

February 24, 1923 – May 6, 2011

Jean Edith Martin was born to Walter and Edith Chenoweth in Lindsay, California on February 24, 1923 and passed away in Newark, California on May 6, 2011 at the age of 88 years.

Jean was a Merced resident for 42 years and worked in the Claims department at Farmers Insurance Group for 19 years. She was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lt. Col. E.C. Meade; second husband, Gabriel C. Martin; and brothers, Donn B. Chenoweth and Walter G. Cheonoweth.

She is survived by her children, Victoria Rivas of Concord, CA, Jack Meade of Merced, CA, Donn Meade of Fremont, CA, Glen Meade of Shepherdsville, KY, and Cynthia Kane of Bethany, CT; stepchildren, Gabriel C. Martin Jr. of Merced, CA, Ronald Martin of Merced, CA, and Kathy Foster of Merced, CA; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. Burial will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, California.
