December 27, 1934-October 31, 2011
Jim was born in Holdenville, OK and moved to Merced in 1938. He has been a resident of Winton for the last 37 years.
Jim worked for Merced Motor Parts and Ludd’s Auto Parts. He was the “go-to” guy and if you didn’t know what you needed he could help you. Jim’s passion was auto racing of any kind. He started drag racing at Ballico Airport in the 60’s and built his own engines. He held the American Hot Rod Assoc. Acceleration Record in 1964 at Fresno Dragways, ¼ mile c 94.73mph. If it had anything to do with cars, he was the man to talk to. His legacy will remain in everyone that he gave advice to about cars.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Doyle Womack and Ruby Dunn; sister, Doris Coleman; and grandson, Eric Pederson.
He is survived by his wife, Lois of 58 years; daughter, Debra Reynolds (Tom); son, Jim Womack (Karel); 6 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, Merced, CA.
