

Known as “Johnny”, to all of his family and friends, he was the second of five children born to Danny and Lucille Barnes.
Johnny attended local school such as, Galen Clark Elementary and Tenaya Junior High School. He excelled in sports, and earned a scholarship to Our Lady of Mercy High School to play football and basketball. After Our Lady of Mercy closed their high school, he transferred to Merced High School, where he continued to play sports.
Johnny was an avid sportsman and fan. As a youngster, he played Junior Football, basketball, and Little League Baseball. He even coached a Junior Football team and took them all the way to the Championship. In his later years he enjoyed playing slow-pitch, and helping his father with slow-pitch tournaments.
Some of his favorite past times included, fishing, attending sports events, playing dominoes, cards, and chess, writing poems, and working crossword puzzles.
Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Marie Barnes. He is survived by his parents, Danny and Lucille Barnes; his brothers and sisters, Charles A. Barnes (Elaine Barnes), Daniel H. Barnes, Sr. (Deneva Barnes), Denise Young (Michael Young), and Diane Barnes (Alfred Maisonet); his children, LaRayvian Barnes-McDonald (Lindsay McDonald), Latrintha Russell, LaTonya Barnes, John Barnes, Jr. and Daniel James Barnes; and his twelve grandchildren, along with countless family and friends who were blessed and proud to have known him.
