
Ward and June were united in marriage on June 2, 1940. Ward has waited in Heaven since January 9, 1988 for June to be reunited with him. Now they are both in Heaven and are reunited together for eternity. June passed away on Saturday, so June and Ward had their first dance Saturday night in Hornitos where they first met. June was born to the Buckley family who settled in Hopeton, California in the 1800’s June’s father, uncles and cousins had a general store, bar, barber shop and livery stable. June and her sisters attended Hopeton school and was a 1939 graduate of Merced High.
June and Ward were avid outdoors people. They both enjoyed fishing, backpacking, camping and water skiing. Later, they purchased an RV and traveled throughout the U.S. Canada and Alaska. They were their happiest camping or water skiing with family and friends. After Ward’s passing, June continued to travel thought Europe and the U.S. June belonged to the Senior Jamboree, where she performed on stage, played in the Vern Taylor Band, Wonder Walkers, Senior Social Club, volunteer at Merced Nursing and Rehabilitation and Widow and Widowers Club. With June’s love of dancing, she took up line dancing.
June is preceded in death by her parents Ed Faux Staley and Laura Buckley Staley of Hopeton, husband Ward Morris, nephews, Vernon (Sonny) Givens, Mariposa, Gary Hermans of Redding, Dick Gore and Roger Morris of Merced, Roger Gore of Snelling. Sisters, Halley Corbett of Sacramento, Pansy Hermans of Redding and Bertha Gore of Snelling.
June is survived by daughters Ellen Morris Weber and Laurel Morris McGowen and son-in-law William McGowen, her loving nieces, nephews and friends. A very special thank you to Dick and Marlene Goar and family who were Ward and June’s second family, Bill and Grace Stone and the staff at Merced Nursing and Rehab, Covenant Care/Hospice for all you have done for June over the years. All of you brought joy into her life.
There will be a graveside service for June on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park, Merced, California.
