

Kay passed away in Merced just prior to her 84th birthday.
Kay was born to Fred and Mary Gross in Carlyle, Illinois. Kay was the youngest of the three daughters and also had an older brother who passed away prior to Kay’s birth. She attended local schools and was a graduate of William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri. The Family moved to Tucson, Arizona after selling their hardware business. There she met Lieutenant Robert L. Weston, while teaching ballroom dance. They were married in 1950.
During her affiliation with the Air force she served on a variety of committees and associations including the Officer Wives’ Club, Duplicate Bridge League and was an avid golfer and bowler.
Kay’s association with the Air Force ended when Colonel Weston retired from Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota and they returned to Merced. After returning she became interested in art and began painting in oil. She submitted many of her works at the Merced County Fair where she won a number of awards. Additionally, she was able to pursue her passion of travel and visited a number of countries in Europe to enjoy their art, architecture, culture and cuisine as well as many locales in the USA. Kay’s true passion was Duplicate Bridge which she achieved the ranking of Life Master while making many friends.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Fred Jr., as well as her granddaughter Amy Weston.
She is survived by her son Stuart Weston and his family Kristy, Becky, Josh and Dejaie of Merced, son Alan Weston of Fresno, Son Rick Weston and his family Kris, Aaron (Scottsdale, AZ) and Erica (Marina Del Rey, CA), daughter Patty Ferrell and her family Jeff, Kyle and Madison of Bend, OR, sisters Virginia Suchin of San Diego and Carolyn Rogers of The Woodlands, TX.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life Saturday, July 2, 2011 beginning at 11 AM at the Elks Lodge on the corner of 19th and M Street in Merced.
