Ken was a very real person who loved to talk and discuss anything with anyone. There was never a stranger who didn’t feel welcome and that was a good thing. He was blessed to have experienced enough life, that whether through his own education or life lessons learned, he was able to guide anyone through almost any situation, free of charge. He was a very caring man who loved to help family and loved ones in need. If he could provide any service at all for anyone, he would, without hesitation. He was a handyman through and through who could fix just about anything. He had the tools to prove it. He never thought wrong of giving his own shirt off his own back to supply the needs for others. Whether it was giving someone a ride to and from church or staying after service to help clean up, he was always a giver of his time and talents.
Kennith Brummell was born in Gracemont Oklahoma as the middle child of what would eventually be seven children. As a toddler, his family moved out here to California where his father (Preston Brummell) and mother (Elsie Brummell) became dairy farmers. Ken was the first of his family to graduate college with a business degree from Fresno State. He then took that degree and began work as an appraiser with the Merced accessor’s office for almost 30 years. After retirement, he decided to give the real estate business a try, working for Century 21 (M&M and Associates) for 4 years. He enjoyed meeting new people just as much as selling homes.
Ken was always fun to be around. He loved architecture, smooth jazz, traveling, and his church he attended (Gateway Church) for 14 years. He loved hanging out with his two sons, his wife Jackie, and especially his dog Jordy. He loved Monterey and Carmel as his go-to destinations and even talked about how wonderful it would be to live there one day. Ken had a green thumb and loved to grow fruit and vegetables. His yard and garden were always luscious and green with every type of tomato, squash, zucchini and flowering plant. The Brummell family and friends will miss his jovial laugh and funny sense of humor. He could make clam chowder, spaghetti sauce, and chili better than anyone, we think. He loved desserts and especially pie and anyone that was over for dinner got to experience that first hand.
Ken is survived by his wife Jackie, his two boys, Seth Brummell (Sarah Brummell) and Ryan Brummell, and granddaughter Sophia. He is preceded in death by his first wife Mindi Brummell who passed in March of 2003, his brother Ronald Brummell (2020) and Donald Brummell (2007), also his sister Coetta Santos (2008). He leaves behind three sisters, Judy Clark (Ernie Clark), Debbie Beyer (Mike Beyer), and Anita Brown (Barry Brown), and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service with reception to follow for Kennith Brummell will be held at Gateway Church (353 E Donna Dr. Merced, CA 95340) on Friday, August 26th at 11 am. The immediate family would like to thank all those who helped put this together to honor the life of a really wonderful human being.
