

Michael Lester Melendez, 55, passed away on December 22, 2025, in Merced, California. Born on May 31, 1970, in the same city he called home throughout his life, Michael left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A proud graduate of California State University, Stanislaus, Michael earned his bachelor’s degree with a dual focus in Psychology and Physical Education. His academic pursuits reflected his deep interest in understanding others and promoting well-being—qualities that would define much of his life’s work and personal relationships.
Michael was a loved and dedicated Physical Education teacher and Coach at Rivera Middle School known for his warmth and commitment to student athletes and their well-being.
Michael had a lifelong passion for golf. Whether playing competitively, leisure or guiding others as an instructor, he found joy and purpose on the course. His patience and skill made him not only a talented golfer but also a trusted mentor to many who sought to learn the game. Golf was more than a sport to Michael—it was a way to connect with others and share moments of laughter, learning, and camaraderie.
Those who knew Michael remember him as selfless, kind, caring, funny, and endlessly patient. He had a natural ability to uplift those around him and was often seen as a mentor—not just in sports but in life. His warmth and generosity touched many lives across generations.
Preceded by his grandparents Robert and Vera Morris, Josephine and Jesus Melendez, Aunt Frances Carver, Uncles Samuel Melendez, Robert Morris, John (Abbie) Morris and Joseph Morris.
Michael is lovingly remembered by his parents Jesse & Ruby Melendez, sister Michelle (Jerry) DeLeon, children Jerry Jr., Andrew (Vanessa), Devin (Jeremy), Haley (David) sister Lisa (Robert) Campos, children Jessica, Alisa (Ryan), Robert and 8 great nieces and nephews. Also survived by aunts Betty Garcia, Rosemary (Wally) Kight, Mary Alice (Lee) Hughes, Stefani Morris, Cathy Morris and Uncle James (Judy)Morris along with many cousins he loved and grew up with. Their memories of him are filled with love and pride for the man he became.
May Michael’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire kindness in the world he leaves behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Gateway Church 353 E. Donna Dr.
