Patty graduated from Miramonte High School in 1976 and the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in Social Science. She worked as a Staff Services Analyst II for the Merced County Child Support. Patricia was a loving, outgoing, wonderful mother, daughter, companion and friend. Patty's greatest joy and pride were her two children, Derek and Lisa! She spoke of her kids with pure love knowing that she did everything she could to see them both become successful adults. She lovingly cared for her elderly Mother, Mary, working tirelessly to provide for her. Besides her children and Mother, Patty loved life and two of the places she loved to be was either on the beach, (Monterey and Trinidad State Beaches,) where she could enjoy the crashing of the waves and the smell of salt water in the air. The other place was any where she could hike along a mountain trail and marvel at the simplest thing, (Big Trees, Yosemite and Kings Canyon. She sought out the intrinsic beauty in the tiniest pinecone to the natural design on a whole sand dollar she stoop to pick up. Her smile would light up any room she walked into... However, the one thing we always loved and found amazing about Patty was that she genuinely befriended and would sit and talk with anyone no matter his or her lot in life. Patty looked forward to retiring and planned to visit her ancestral home in Ireland.
In her younger days, Patty loved to play beach volleyball, softball and ran track. She was also very good at bowling and even won an award. She had the best sense of humor and her laugh was contagious. She was a great listener and would always give great advice. She loved her job and put 100% into it. She enjoyed reading and journaling. She liked Yoga and massages. She especially like to take what we called “death marches” aka walking ALL day long to where we could no longer feel our legs and were sore for days. She loved animals and was always rescuing them. Patty will be always loved and greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched. She was a remarkable woman.
Patty is preceded in death by her father Arthur J. McDermott. She is survived by her children, Lisa Marie Robinson of Salinas, Ca and Derek Orlando Robinson Jr. of Merced, Ca; her companion Sean Pierre Fox-Wilson of Twain Harte, Ca. her mother Mary T. McDermott of Merced, Ca; Brothers Michael A. McDermott of Concord, Ca and Robert McDermott of Redding, Ca.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in her honor to New Beginnings Animal Rescue at www.newbeginningsforanimalsmerced.org.
