The family of Peggy Anne (Lockwood) Faretta sadly announces the passing of their beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother on November 10th. She was preceded in death by two of her brothers, John Lockwood and Frank Lockwood; and her husband of 63 years, Robert Faretta, who passed away on June 7th of this year.
Peggy was born in Inglewood, California on July 15,1939 and ascended into heaven from Merced, California, on November 10, 2025. She grew up in Clovis, California, raised by her parents Frank and June Lockwood. In her youth, she enjoyed riding horses and, at the age of 11, she packed peaches until she had enough money to buy her own horse for $11; a Tennessee Walking Horse that she named Wave. After graduating from high school in Clovis, she attended Fresno State University where she met her future husband, Bob Faretta. She graduated from Fresno State in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education.
After graduating from Fresno State, Peggy married Bob and they moved to Tacoma, Washington, before settling in Merced where she began her 30-year career as an elementary school teacher. In her 30 plus years of teaching kindergarten, she ensured hundreds of young children in Merced got a quality start to their educational experience. She was also a contributor to the Merced community, serving as President of the Junior Women’s Club of Merced and was a longtime member of the Merced Garden Club.
Peggy is survived by two brothers, Jim Lockwood and Roger Lockwood; three children (and their spouses), Michael Faretta (Elaine), Patrick Faretta (Helen), and Shelly Butler (Steve); five grandchildren Elsa Faretta, Jeff Link (Monica), Andrew Faretta, Scott Butler, and Shawn Butler.; and one great grandchild, Waylon Link.
In addition to her decades of teaching, Peggy was a wonderful mom and grandma, she loved to cook and bake for her family and was especially renowned for her homemade chocolate chip cookies and apple pie. She also enjoyed taking care of and sharing stories about her beloved cats, Tiger and Kitty Kat. A private service will be held in the near future, and she will be interned with her husband of 63 years in Santa Nella, California.
