Richard “Rick” Parsley, 61, passed away early Monday morning, July 25. Born in Atwater, Calif. on November 30, 1949, Rick graduated from Atwater High School. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served his country with a tour of duty in Vietnam where he was awarded a bronze star. Rick began a career as a local merchant, but business was not his passion and he was a person who refused to live life without passion. In his late 30s, he set out to become an educator. Having found his calling, Rick spent many years as a teacher, principal and administrator, while working on his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and administrative credential.
Many have said how Rick profoundly influenced their lives. His example inspired others. Some considered Rick to be their mentor. He encouraged people to do better in their own lives. He lived a life of passion for the things he loved. One of his favorite things to do was spend time on the water, on his boat, with friends and family.
In accordance with Rick's wishes, he will be cremated with a service celebrating his life, July 28 at 5:00 PM at the First Baptist Church at 500 Buena Vista Drive Merced, CA. His ashes will be scattered at the beach by his family and close friends at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor Rick a scholarship for auto students is being set up in his name. For more information contact Debbie Gomes at 559-381-6679

Rick is survived by the love of his life, Mae Pierini; his daughter Lori and Lori’s husband Jason; his son Jeff and Jeff’s wife Jen; stepsons Santi and Michael; Michael’s wife Azeb; step-daughter Shelli; Shelli’s husband Jason; his seven grandchildren: Maren, Madison, Santi, Gianni, Hannah, Maya, Lucca; and so many who called him friend.
