Rudolph Buendia Jr. was born to Rudolph and Jovita Buendia on October 6th, 1932 in Merced, California. He grew up in Planada, California alongside five brothers and three sisters. Rudolph, affectionately known to many as Rudy, was a proud veteran.
He bravely served in the Army, enlisting in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper. After the Army, Rudy became a union plasterer in the Bay Area and eventually became his own contractor. His legacy of work can be seen in great institutions such as Stanford University, UC Berkeley, and Foothill College. He also volunteered his time locally by working on projects such as plastering the amphitheater at Applegate Park.
In his free time, Rudy enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, and watching sports. Rudy was an avid sports fan as he enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, and football.
The game of baseball especially held a special place in his heart. When he was fourteen years old he met Sarah Garcia, his future wife, at a baseball game. His love for her knew no bounds. When they were young, he would ride his bike from Planada, California to Merced, California to visit Sarah. Rudy and Sarah were happily married for forty years until her passing in 1993. Together they raised their three children: Karen, Rudolph III, and Melisa. He later married Mary Buendia. His loved ones will always remember his bravery, diligence, humor, and love. Even in his final days, he brought laughter and smiles to family around him.
Rudy is survived by his three children, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two sisters. He is preceded in death by his wife Sarah, five brothers, and one sister. During the last four years of his life, his children were his caregivers. Rudy peacefully passed at home, surrounded by family, on November 22nd, 2024. Rudy’s memory will be cherished and his legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Private services to honor Rudy will take place at a later date.
