Virginia Patiño Henderson, 64, of Merced, CA, passed away on December 27, 2024, at 11:11 PM, surrounded by her loving family. She took her last breath holding the hand of her devoted husband, Lamar, in the comfort of their home, after a brave and courageous four-year battle with cancer.
Virginia was born on January 24, 1960, in San Jose, CA, to Mary Louise and Juan Patiño. Raised in a loving family, she later moved to Merced to follow her sister and attend college, where she met the love of her life, Lamar. They married and together raised two beautiful daughters, Marla and Mariah, and celebrated the joys of family life with their beloved grandchild, Malia.
Throughout her life, Virginia was known for her creativity and zest for life. Her career was marked by her roles as an Activities Director at a local nursing facility, where she brightened the days of many, and as a “demo lady” for over 10 years at Costco in Merced. She will be remembered for her vibrant personality and warm heart.
Virginia had a passion for life’s little pleasures. She loved spending time with her family, going on dates with her husband, and making memories filled with laughter with her “comadres” at the casino. A woman who cherished tradition, she was known for her holiday decorations, annual get together to make tamales with friends, and her handwritten letters and cards. She was known for her signature farewell—a kiss on the cheek with her red lipstick, lengthy phone chats with friends and family, and her ability to make everyone feel special.
Virginia leaves behind her loving husband, Lamar Henderson Jr.; daughters, Marla and Mariah Henderson; granddaughter, Malia Blackwell; siblings, Edward Patiño, Max Patiño, and Raymond Patiño; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on January 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Merced.
Virginia was a beacon of light to all who knew her— a loving mother, wife, sister, and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and infectious smile and laughter will be cherished forever by those who were fortunate enough to call her part of their lives. May she rest in peace, knowing she leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and cherished memories.
"Her love was a light that touched many hearts and will continue to shine through the lives she touched."
