Walter was born near Riley, Kansas to Floyd and Gladys Morris. He came to the Merced area in 1929, where he attended grammar school and Merced High School where he enjoyed playing football and baseball. After graduating he went to work at the Merced Irrigation District, was then drafted into the Army and served 4 years in the South Pacific during WWII. Upon discharge he returned to MID, and retired in June of 1980 after working 42 years.
Walter enjoyed fishing, camping, and being with his family. He was a member of the American Legion and also the AARP in Atwater.
He is preceded in death by his father, Floyd; mother, Gladys; brothers, Glen, Everett, and Ward; and his sister, Elnora Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Vera Morris; daughter, Judy Bradley; son, Rodger Morris; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 12, 2011 from 3:00p.m.-7:00p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 10:00a.m. at Merced District Cemetery.
