Wes was the cherished son of Mason and Betty Albert. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories among his family and friends. After graduating from high school, Wes joined the United States Postal Service in 1977 as a letter carrier in Whittier, where he worked for eight years. In 1985, he relocated to Merced and continued his career for another 33 years before retiring on June 1, 2018. During his postal career Wes had the privilege of carrying the Olympic torch in 1988 with his daughters running beside him, representing the US Postal Service. Wes earned numerous recognitions and awards for exceptional performance throughout his postal career. In 1989, his idea for a “carrier endorsement stamp” was recognized and adopted by the United States Postal Service for use by carriers.
Wes met the love of his life Mary in July of 1975 and they were married on July 26, 1980. They raised two beautiful daughters Tamara and Brooke. His simple life, friendships, and values
showed that he enjoyed living, cared about others, and spent his days focused on his family. In his younger years, Wes loved the outdoors and wildlife. He liked to hike, backpack, bike and camp from an early age with his family. He was an avid fisherman and spent almost every weekend out on the lake with his good fishing buddy, Mike Cullen. He enjoyed the quiet early mornings before sunrise, sitting in his boat and casting his line into the water. Fishing was his true passion. In his later years of retirement, he enjoyed a slower pace of life that included tending to his vegetable garden, bird watching and maintaining several hummingbird feeders around his home. He loved his three grandchildren immensely and supported them at their activities. He will be remembered for his laid back and sarcastic personality and his love of sweets especially tuxedo cake, mint chocolate chip ice cream and Dove chocolates.
Wes is survived by his wife Mary Grace; daughter Tamara (Joshua) Simmons, daughter Brooke (Dustin) Thompson and grandchildren Jackson Simmons, Jenna Simmons and Charlotte Thompson and his beloved doggies Chloe and Sugar. He is also survived by brothers Russell (Diane) Albert and Keith (Carol) Albert, several cousins, nieces, nephews and longtime friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Muriel Craig.
Mary, Tamara, and Brooke would like to thank Community Hospice & Health Services, Dr. Brandon Boggs, and Amanda Gibson, NP for the care and support they provided throughout his treatment and in his final days. A celebration of Wesley’s life will take place on May 30, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Simmons home, 1074 Prince William Court, Atwater, CA 95301.
