

Wilda Sutherland, a lifelong Merced resident passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 17, 2018 at home surrounded by family. She was 91 years old. Wilda affectionately known as “Little Grandma” was born in Merced, CA on May 21, 1926. Born to Thomas and Jessie Foster, she was one of seven children. She married Herbert Sutherland and together they raised their family in Merced. Wilda was a devout Seventh Day Adventist and dedicated much of her life to volunteering her time at the church.
Wilda, along with her husband planted large gardens and always shared with friends and neighbors. She enjoyed playing the piano, jig-saw puzzles, and spending time with her family. Wilda loved children, and worked for fifteen years in the nursery at the Calvary Baptist Church. She was a proud inductee of the Merced County Old Timers Association class of 2012. Later in life she enjoyed watching “Little House on The Prairie” and “The Waltons”, listening to music and the companionship of her cat, Pickles.
Wilda was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Sutherland in 1989, and her son Frank in 2006 and son-in-law Walter Lane in 2003.
She is survived by children Ruby Coburn (Elden), Terry Sutherland (Corinne), Ella Lane, Sandra Valladao and Belia Poulin (Raymond). Grandchildren: Tammy and Joanne Ward, Cary Coburn, Christie Stone, Ryan Sutherland, Laura Lasnier, Adam Lane, Angie Sapp, Stephanie Cooksey, Christopher Poulin and Great-Grandchildren: Shannon Ward, Michelle, Johnny and Corey Pruett, Anika and Sydnee Stone, Avery and Owen Lasnier and Great-Great Granddaughter Faith Ward. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 at 11am at Winton Cemetery District.
