William Carvin Helms

Bill received his B.A. from Principia College in 1989 and his Masters of Social Work from California State University, Stanislaus in 2007. Teacher, Social Worker, hospitality & guest service worker, Bill served his fellow man, and served them with a smile.

He belonged to the Merced Golden Lions Club, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, MA, was a former member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Merced, CA and indulged his passion for trains as the San Joaquin Valley Railfan.

Bill was not only a father to 4 great kids but he was also an Eagle Scout with Boy Scout Troop 333, jazz musician, Lion of the Year 2011-12, President Merced Golden Lions, and Rackham Court West Son of UM-YAH. He enjoyed bicycling for work and for fun with his family, Frisbee on the Chapel Green, San Francisco Giants. Besides being anywhere with family, his favorite places to be were tubing behind a speeding boat at Windward on Glen Lake, MI, Camp Leelanau, Principia, and his hometown, Hudson, OH.

Bill leaves behind his children, Kendall, Sara, Robin and Nathan Helms all of Merced, CA; brothers, Chris Helms of Seattle, WA and David Helms of Chicago, IL; and father, W. Farley Helms, Cleveland, OH.

Bill loved his time both as a camper and counselor up in Northern Michigan, so the family asks that anyone wishing to recognize Bill, please do so by supporting Camp Leelanau.
