January 25, 1989 - July 24, 2025
Our darling Danielle died tragically in a house fire at the young age of 36. She grew up in Armstrong, attending Armstrong Elementary then moved to Coldstream, and went to Kal Secondary. She loved playing her Grandma McDougall’s saxophone in the Kal band, and loved her many band trips including playing at Disneyland.
Her main hobbies included listening to music, reading books, surfing the internet, watching YouTube and playing online games. She liked to curl, ski, hike, play hockey and slow-pitch but had to stop due to injuries.
Danielle proudly served in the military, a career path she dreamed of since childhood. After her service, she returned to college to pursue a business degree and was thriving in her studies. She also made some personal changes, sincere thanks to Dr. Christina Gregory for your compassion and care. She was excited for the new chapter ahead, and we take comfort in knowing how genuinely happy Dani was in this last stage of her life.
Family was at the very heart of her world. She was known for her big hugs and her unwavering love for those around her. Her presence brought warmth and laughter to every family gathering and card game, and her affection will be deeply missed. She also leaves behind a wide and adored extended family and made special connections to so many family members. She had many friends in her network. Danielle always ended her family visits with a simple phrase that captured her warmth: “See ya, love ya.”.
Danielle is lovingly remembered by her parents, Ron and Valerie McDougall of Merritt, BC; her sister, Mariko McDougall (Ben Jung) of Philadelphia PA, and her grandmother, Audrey Niehaus of Merritt, BC. Danielle was predeceased by her loving and much-loved grandparents Al and Audrie McDougall, and Brian Niehaus, all of Merritt, BC.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 1:00 pm at The Merritt Civic Centre, Meeting Room 2 at 1950 Mamette Avenue, Merritt, BC. All family and friends are welcome.
