It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Sydney Irene Turmel (Begg) of Merritt, BC, on Thursday, October 8th, 2026.
Sydney was pre-deceased by her husband Robert in 2020, siblings Connie, Sandra, Stuart and Ted, as well as her parents Marjory and Sandy.
Sydney is survived by her children Eva (Ross), Paul, and Leona (Perry), and her granddaughters Kristina, Jessica and Katie, as well as her brother Dennis (Sandy), and her In-laws Marv and Jeannette Sheriff and Margaret Begg, and many nieces and nephews.
Sydney was born on December 23rd, 1945, in Kamloops, BC, and spent most of her childhood years in Merritt and Princeton, BC. She married Robert in 1963 in Merritt and they spent their working years in a number of places including Coquitlam, Chilliwack, Campbell River and Pitt Meadows, before finally deciding to spend their retirement years back in Merritt.
We will celebrate Sydney’s life on Friday, Nov. 6th, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Merritt Funeral Chapel. There will be a reception and graveside service to follow.
