Charles Patrick Humphrey, 87, of Merritt Island, passed away on March 28, 2013. He was born on May 21, 1925 in Stillwater, MN and was the son of the late Frank and Helen Humphrey.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Law of Merritt Island; his daughters Elizabeth Curtis of Atlanta, GA and Margaret Worley (David) of Washington, DC; granddaughters Kathleen Atkinson and Christina Atkinson; and stepchildren Robert O. Law, IV (Karen) and Leslie Law Hart.
"Charley" was retired but stayed active in politics and veterans affairs. He served as the DAV Florida State Legislative Officer and was currently on the Executive Committee of DAV Space Coast Chapter #123. He was a member of the Brevard Veterans Council, the Society of the First Infantry Division, Merritt Island Chapter #756 AARP, and the Knights of Columbus. He held a commercial pilot license and enjoyed being a member and attending the flying activities of the Florida Grasshoppers Pilot Club.
During World War II, he served in the Army in the "Big Red One" and was at Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy. He also participated in the liberation of Belgium and France and fought in the Battles of Crucifix Hill and Aacken, Germany. In honor of his heroic services to his country, funeral services and internment will be held at Arlington Cemetery.
