Doris Mae Riley, at 89 years old, passed peacefully on June 27, 2018, at Wuesthoff Hospice in Rockledge, Florida. We rejoice that she is back with the love of her life, her husband Kenneth Earl Riley, who preceded her in death in 2016.
Doris was born to Earl and Dorothy Walter in Akron, Ohio. She attended grade school through high school in Akron, graduating from East High in June 1947. Doris also attended Hammel Business School. She met her husband, Ken at East High and they married in December 1948.
Doris was active in her church, Emmanuel United Church of Christ, serving as a member of the choir, a teacher and youth counselor.
Doris worked as a secretary at Chamberlain Air and Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Akron from 1948 to 1958. She returned to work as the office manager for the North Canton sales office of Gardiner Trane in 1971 and retired in 1987.
Doris spent most of her life in northeast Ohio, living in Akron, Cuyahoga Falls and Green. Upon retirement, she and Ken moved to Florida living in Vero Beach, The Villages and Melbourne. When Ken passed, Doris moved into an assisted living facility, Palm Cottages in Rockledge. We are grateful to the staff at Palm Cottages for the loving care they provided in her final years, and to the staff at Wuesthoff Hospice for keeping her comfortable in her last days.
Doris enjoyed music, reading, ceramics and bird-watching. Mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family, including the furry four-legged family members.
Surviving Doris are her children, Pamela (Tim) Cunningham of Melbourne, Florida and Kenneth (Pam) Riley of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Doris also has 3 grandchildren, Justin, Chris and Katie, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Family members and friends will celebrate her life at a later date. For those wishing to honor Doris’ memory, we know she would be very pleased with donations made to your local Humane Society, APL or SPCA organization.
