June 8, 1045 - January 26, 2021
On Tuesday January 26, 2021, Edward Bernard Madigan, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 75. Edward was born June 8, 1945 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, where he attended St. Laurence School, in Upper Darby and Monseigneur Bonner High School, in Drexel Hill. Edward attended Anne Arundel Community College and Metropolitan State University of Denver and received a BS degree in Computer Science
He was preceded in death by his late father John F. Madigan, mother Dorothy E. Lorch Madigan, and brother Robby Madigan. He is survived by his wife Catherine Merlone Madigan , Merritt Island, Florida , son Edward Madigan, Cocoa Beach, Florida, daughter Theresa Madigan Garrett (Nigel) Casselberry, Florida, granddaughter Taylor Marie Madigan, Winter Springs, Florida, bothers John Madigan, Pennsylvania, Leo Madigan, Pennsylvania, and aunts Barbara Graham Fitzgerald (Virginia), and Helen Madigan Gillespie (Pennsylvania).
At the age of 18 Edward joined the United States Air Force, serving at several postings including Japan, Germany, and Italy. He believed these experiences began his love to see “the whole world”. After retirement, this passion for travel took us on wonderful journeys from Singapore to Spain, Tierra del Fuego to Alaska, Cape Town South Africa to St. Petersburg, Russia, New York to Los Angeles, Italy to Turkey, and of course many times to his beloved Kauai, Hawaii.
After the Air Force, NSA (NationalSecurity Agency) in Colorado became his employer for many years. He later joined Lockheed Martin where one of his assignments he loved in particular was assisting in the building of experimental solar power plants in Spain and the southwest United States. After his “first” retirement from Lockheed, he joined Titan Corporation and served as a Vice President in their aviation division. Edward retired from L-3 Communications, which had bought out Titan, in June 2005.
Edward had overcome childhood polio to become quite an avid athlete and participated in bowling, pool, skiing, and golf. He cherished the times spent playing with his father, brothers, son, and many good friends. He gladly gave his time and talent to supporting golf at the Savannahs, acting as the SGA Tournament Director for 15 years and providing league and tournament coordination for the Club.
Edward will be remembered for his positive spirit, joy of life, and the generous friendship he extended to all.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church on Merritt Island, at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “The Longest Day” Central and North Florida Chapter, Alzheimers Association, www.alz.org, Longwood, Florida.
