Cocoa Beach, Florida
Elizabeth (Betty) Geanne Lindsey, 81, died peacefully on Monday June 11, 2012 surrounded by her family at her home in Cocoa Beach, Florida after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1930 to Albert and Ruth O’Donnell. Betty graduated German Township High School in 1948 and married John Lindsey in 1951. After lovingly raising her family as a USAF wife in England, Germany, and several different U.S. states, she attended Old Dominion University in Virginia to become an elementary teacher (1974). She continued at ODU to complete her master’s degree and advanced certificate in counseling in 1978. She worked as a counselor at Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia, from 1978 until she retired in 1996. She was beloved by students, especially aspiring nurses, many of whom became her friends after graduation. Of all of the tributes and congratulations made to at her retirement, Dr. Howard Taylor made the greatest statement about Mrs. Lindsey that one could ever make about another person. He stated, “Betty Lindsey is one of the most dedicated and caring individuals I’ve ever met. Her loyalty, dedication, and motivation is the reason that students tend to seek her out as a counselor. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knows her.”
She was active in the Churches of Christ in Houma, Louisiana, Huntsville, Alabama, Newport News, Virginia and most recently at Rockledge Church of Christ in Rockledge where she generously shared her time as a teacher and other events such as coordinating Ladies’ day activities. She will be missed by many friends and family for her tireless energy, her positive spirit, and her sense of humor. Her children extend their deep gratitude for continued assistance from the many church members who supported Betty and John through this difficult journey.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, John Euel Lindsey, her daughter Janice Ruth Lindsey Fauske (James) and her son Ronald David Lindsey (Cheryl), and grandchildren, Dena Elizabeth Fauske, Cierra Ann Lindsey, Chelsea Keenan, Dominic Keenan, and Sean Keenan. She is also survived by many loving extended family: in-laws, nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Rockledge Church of Christ, Rockledge, Florida onThursday June 28, 2012 with an interment service following at Florida Memorial Gardens.
