I knew Everett through turtleing but I think the memory that makes me smile most is when we started Wild Florida Rescue and Everett gave me a phone call: I answered, "Hi Everett,  this is Heather how have you been? What's going on"?  He then replied "oh HEATHER? Hi, well the wildlife hospital gave me this number because SOME GUYS are picking up all the injured pelicans and I usually do that and I'm not getting the calls"! Feeling badly that we didnt know we were taking away pelican rescue calls I said, " oh shucks Everett,  I'm sorry to hear that but I run a wildlife dispatch line and can send you all the pelicans you want to rescue".  He said "oh really?? That's great and this is Heather with Sea Turtle Preservation"? I respond , yep . And then he says "Good because those  GUYS were just not even giving me a chance to get to the pelicans"!! Everett always made me smile like that.

Everett's and my late husband, Gary's, friendship dates back to the 1960s in Denver. I first met Everett when Gary and I were married in 1967.  And, as I recall, we attended  Pat's and Everett's wedding.
Especially during the last 20 years or so, Everett and Gary kept in touch through many phone calls.  I'm sure they discussed sports;  but we also heard about his various turtle adventures . . . and his amazing surprise Birthday parachute jump arranged by Pat.  After Gary's passing 3 years ago Everett and I exchanged phone calls periodically.  It was always good to talk to him.
He was so appreciative and thankful for Pat's daughter's  family and for her caring and helpfulness through the years.
Everett was a very special person, and will be missed.  May he rest in Peace!
