Hattie Swallows Walker was born April 21, 1929, in Livingston, Tennessee, to Charlie and Lora Swallows. She went to be with the Lord on May 6, 2019. She is survived by siblings Mary Minnich and Kenneth Swallows and their spouses, C. Edward Minnich and Laurie Ann Swallows, and also by several nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her parents and by brothers Charlie, Jr. and Wayne. At 19 she married William Ashley, Jr. but was widowed after only four years. Four years later the young widow married Ernest E. Walker on April 24, 1956. They had 59 wonderful years together before he passed away in 2015.
Hattie was a graduate of Winter Haven High School and of Business College of Orlando. She served as secretary and office manager at Thompson Printing and Letter Service in Winter Haven. She served as secretary in several positions: Pastor’s secretary in First Baptist Church of Winter Haven, Florida; Education secretary in First Baptist Church of Orlando; Secretary in Trust Department of Commerce Bank in Panama City; Secretary at Packard Land Surveyors; and Secretary at Dan Meadow Law Office until she retired.
Hattie was always active in church life. She was a Sunday School teacher to youth for about 15 years and to children for about 6 years. She also served as Associational Youth Teacher for about 6 years. In addition, she was active in Women’s Missionary activities and programs. Ernest truly appreciated her support in his Minister of Christian Education work and ministry.
Hattie was a very loving and caring person who did all she could to help others along the way. The best example of this was her willingness to care for her younger siblings after their mother passed away in 1955. She touched so many lives in positive ways and will be sorely missed. Family and Friends will be received at Derby Chapel, Cocoa on Saturday May 18, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 10 am.
