She attended secondary school at St Teresa’s Girls and Queensway Secretarial College, Nairobi, Kenya.
She had over 35 years of sales and marketing experience. She was consistently top sales; Paradise Ford (2019), Cocoa, Florida, Hilton Hotel, Intercontinental (1997-2000), Sabena Belgian Airline (1979 – 1991), Commodity Exports, Thorn Tree Safaris, Nairobi, Kenya.
Irene was married to Walter Lee Harvin (Lamu, Kenya). They had one son Hiiji Muchiri Harvin (Cocoa, Florida).
Irene was a dedicated volunteer of First Baptist Church of Cocoa, serving as an usher. She enjoyed dancing with a self-directed group formed by African friends living in Cocoa. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels of Brevard County and brought joy to many home bond seniors. In October 2008, she played an integral role in the formation of the family charity, Kenya Scholarship Fund International, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which has touched the lives of many Kenyan students.
She is survived by her husband, son, a granddaughter and two siblings; John Muchiri and Alice Hastings-James, nieces and nephews.
We will celebrate the life of Irene Mwangi-Harvin on Friday April 26, 2024 at 4 p.m. at Wiley-Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, Florida 32953.
