We’ll all miss his ever-pleasant outlook & his ready supply of jokes, a lost art form. Jack was born on 6/6/1927 in Titusville FL. He remained strong till just this last year when his health & strength ‘dismayed him.’ He accepted that in the fullness of time he could expect to transition over the horizon just out of our sight. Peacefully at 93 years old on 11/10/2020 Jack & his wife Barbara were together just after sunrise for this. He married Barbara 31 years ago & was a vital force in her extensive rollicking bunch who rightfully adored their ‘Grandpa Jack.’ Jack knows his stalwart son Gerard Jack Miller, now in Houston, Texas, will heal with the love of his wife Debra Ann Miller. Jack’s sister & best friend, Leah Kathleen Miller in Jacksonville FL will have over seven decades of happy memories from which to draw sustenance & strength. Sadly Jack was predeceased by his artistic son Richard Edward Miller much too young in his 30’s. So many, many old & new friends mourn his passing & hold dear the memory of his warmth & friendship. Yet even more have certainly cheered him a hearty welcome: his late father Jack V Miller & mother Doris Estelle Miller Burch, sister Patricia Ann Miller Gingrich, brother Jerry Mack Miller, his Aunt Leah Miller Conley & husband Uncle Richard Conley, & all of Jack’s extended family with hardy southern roots, plus so many, many friends whose lives he quietly enriched.
He always described the spot he would drift toward in heaven. “Look for a vineyard with a nice tree to sit under near a cheerful creek.” He spoke often of “the stillness there & those sunsets, sunsets like you just can’t imagine.” With his energy now restored you can bet he’s rambling ‘round with his signature long-legged gait, a walking stick, & that ain’t-life-grand smile.
During WWII as did so many young men, Jack’s mother signed for his desire to enlist in the US Navy: 8/17/1944 – 4/5//1948 as a Water Tender & he saw action in the Asiatic Theater. He also served during the Korean Conflict in the US Air Force from 2/5/1951 – 10/17/1958 Staff Sergeant. (2/5/1951 – 2/4/55 & 4/22/55 – 10/17/1958)
Jack worked without a lapse for fifty years almost to the month! He was at Cape Canaveral in the glory days of launches with Northrup Grumman, Autonetics, North American, & General Electric; then was with the Test Program Division of NARF USNAS in Jacksonville FL, Gay Electric in Titusville FL, Union Carbide in Oak Ridge TN, & retired after his favorite job as an Electronics Technician with the FAA in Hilliard FL, San Juan PR, & Miami FL.
