Julie B. Whitehurst - Merritt Island - Sunday morning, April 11, 2010, Julie B. Whitehurst left this earth and went home to be with the Lord. Julie was born in Buffalo, NY on June 30, 1956 and moved with her parents to Ft. Lauderdale FL in 1957. Julie attended Nova High School in Ft. Lauderdale and graduated in 1974. She attended the University of South Florida and than attended Rollins College where she earned her B.S. in Accounting. At the University of South Florida she met her husband of 32 years, Kit Whitehurst. In 1978 she settled in Brevard County and married in 1979; she lived on Merritt Island for the past 26 years. Julie worked in the family business with her husband for the last 30 years. Julie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. Her children were most important in her life. During her life she battled Multiple Sclerosis and was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, but no matter how bad things got, she always cared for others and served her family, never complaining. She was the friend that you could always count on, always giving tirelessly of her self never asking for anything in return. Up to the end Julie tried to serve everyone in her life and make the people around her comfortable. Her love was never ending and will be with us forever. Julie was an adventurer and loved the outdoors. She loved white water rafting, boating, the mountains, scuba diving, camping and especially loved long walks on the beach collecting sea glass and sea beans. Julie volunteered at Audubon Elementary School during the years her three children attended and received the Apple Corp award for the many hours of volunteer work. Julie was a founding member of the Brevard Zoo Society, and a member of the MS Society, Women in Construction, The Daughters of the American Revolution, Riverside Presbyterian Church and the La Las. Julie is survived by her husband Kit; sons, Ian Whitehurst and Ross Whitehurst; daughter, Ashlei Jimenez (Felipe); grandson, Matteo; parents, Pat and Andrea, and brothers, Greg, Mike and Dan. Visitation will be held at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 3400 N. Atlantic Ave, Cocoa Beach, FL at 1:30, Thursday, April 15th with services at 2:30 p.m. Donations may made in Julies behalf to the American Cancer Society or Multiple Sclerosis Society.
