She was born in Dixie, Arkansas to Charles & Ruby Hafer. She is survived by Louis Ted Freeman her husband of 65 years, sister Helen Ann Ogles, brother Ferris Wayne Hafer, her five children Teddy V, Charles Scott his wife Angie, Jeffery his wife Lydia and daughters Julie and Gloria. She had 8 grand children; Michael, Christopher, Victoria, Samantha, Valaria, Laura, Celia, Jeffery Jr. and 4 great grandchildren; Diego, Alejandra, Brent and Benjamin.
She was a hard worker and there wasn’t a job she couldn’t do. She grew up and worked on her family’s farm in Arkansas. Later, she moved to Michigan to raise 5 children while working as a lead person for a large packaging firm. She played varsity basket ball in high school and once challenged her boss Bill Laimbeer to hoops before she retired.
An avid reader and active in politics, Mary Pat supported equal rights for all and once held the picket line as part of the union for fairness workplace demonstration in Flint Michigan. She moved to Florida and became active in federal, state and local politics working as precinct manager in her community.
Mary Pat was a loving and kind person that was adored by family, friends and pretty much everyone that had the pleasure of meeting her or hearing her infectious laugh. She was an artist who loved bright splashes of color, music, dancing, dining with friends and enjoyed long scenic drives.
Her husband said of her today, “She loved the sun and like the sun she warmed everyone’s hearts.”
