

Smith, Charles Bruce of Mesa, Arizona passed away September 25, 2016 at the age of 78. He was born May 18, 1938 to Charles and Catherine Smith in Paracale Camarines Norte, Philippines, where his father worked as a mining engineer. Charlie graduated from the American School in Manila. He attended the University of Arizona School of Mines and graduated with a B.S. in Mining Engineering in 1961. During his time at the U of A, Charles met Bonnie Harman. The two were later married and spent the next 57 years together, raising three children, Clifford, Kerri and Katherine. Charles had a successful career as a mining executive here in the US and abroad. He completed an executive course at Cornell University in 1974 and in 1982 was awarded a Professional Masters in Engineering Degree for his significant contribution to the field of mining. Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Kerri Susan Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bonnie H. Smith; son, Clifford (Marianne) Smith; daughter, Katherine Lee (Rodney) Wineteer; his grandchildren, Sean Smith, Kelly Smith, Alexander Wineteer and Eric Wineteer. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd, Mesa AZ 85206.
